Online Safety

Online Safety

  • At Gateway we take online safety extremely seriously.
  • We have an Internet Policy that provides guidance for teachers and children about how to use the World Wide Web safely.
  • Children are not permitted to access the Internet without the presence of an adult and even then specific pre-checked websites are used.
  • The entire school network is protected by a filtering firewall that stops any inappropriate material being viewed or downloaded.
  • An Internet incident report system is in place to record and help investigate issues should they arise.

Curriculum

At the start of every PSHE and Computing unit, we have discrete online safety lessons for all children from Y1 - Y6.

Ms Nwandison holds coffee mornings to support parents with online safety out of school and members of SLT are always on hand to advise if problems occur.

The Academy also keep a record of any online safety issues in or outside of school and this is monitored regularly. We work with parents where appropriate and sanctions are noted as part of our Behaviour Policy.

Band Runner - Gateway trial help the new improved game go live!

We are pleased to announce that the new and improved Band Runner game is now available for children to play, here: www.ceopeducation.co.uk/8_10/

The updated game features many of the new questions our digital ambassadors tested during the focus group session. These better reflect 8 to 10s current experiences online, including:

  • Livestreaming
  • Online gaming
  • In-game chat

The children from Gateway were put in focus groups and suggested a new voice-over function, where children can click to have the questions and answers read aloud. This has been recorded with a young person and we hope this tone engages the children even more.

Once again, we received a lovely feeback email saying thank you to our students. Their feedback was invaluable in shaping the updates and their contributions have helped better protect other children online. Well done Digital Leaders - you are true Gateway heroes.
